There are lots of places to find antiques in NYC. But my favorite is an obscure little place on 10th Street. It is small, crowded, and full of items for sale. They specialize in the obscure, the odd and the unusual. I once found a drawing there of Donald Duck dressed in W.W.II gear battling Porky Pig dressed as a Nazi. This was drawn on Red Cross stationary by a US soldier during W.W.II. Now it was framed and hanging in the shop. They also carry strange medical antiques, Victorian clothing, prosthetic limbs, skeletons, framed flowers made from human hair, and any other sort of obscure item they can find.
I suggest stopping by often just to see what they have that is new. I also suggest that you have some patience, as their hours can be as odd as their stock. If an interesting estate sale is happening somewhere, they sometimes have to close to go buy more items for the store.
Also, spend some time talking to the owners. If you get to know them, they may tell you a few weird tales about the items they carry and their patrons.
However, I will not tell you where this store is located, or even its name. I found out about the shop in an article that made it part of a challenge, and thus I will pass along the location in the same way. It is located somewhere along 10th Street. Make an afternoon of it and explore 10th street as you search for this shop. See what else you can find that might just peak your interest.
It's a great way to get to know New York.
Great tip!! And love that it is a challenge to find it!!!
