GHOSTour '07 Day 1

posted Monday, 8 October 2007

As many loyal readers may remember, a couple of years ago I went on an amazing Dracula Tour to Transylvania in Romania.  And last year, I gathered some of my friends from that trip to hang out in Salem on Halloween.  Well, this year, some of my friends from those trips decided to tour England on the Ghostour.

My friends flew into town and we had a great time on the nights before we left town.  On Friday night we did a little bar hopping, followed by a trip to NYC's original Halloween activity, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.   As always, it was a "jump to the left," and my friend who had never seen it before thought he was going to loose his mind.

The next night, saw more friends joining us, dinner out, and finally a trip to La Vie at the Spiegeltent.  Just when my friend thought he had recovered from Rocky Horror, I hit him with a show that left him wanting "more, more, more!"  While La Vie was not as good as last years version of Absinthe, it was still a lot of damned fun (literally!).

The next morning we ran around town a little more and had breakfast/lunch at my favorite dim sum place in Chinatown.  And then it was off to the airport.  Once there we were greeted by our tour operator, who gave us the good news and then said, "Now let me turn that smile upside down.  The flight has been delayed by four hours."   After delayed  Air India flights in both directions on this trip, I now call Air India Curry, NOT in a Hurry! after the NYC restaurant, Curry in a Hurry.  Below are pictures of my fellow travelers sitting around the airport restaurants, bars, and waiting areas in JFK.  For a while we were entertained by an Indian woman who kept belching loudly.  It seems a bit childish, but after four hours of waiting at JFK, anything was entertaining!  When we finally boarded our plane, 4 1/2 hours late, the overwhelming smell of curry made me dread the flight.  I like curry, but sitting in it for 7 hours was not high on my list of things to do.  While Air India may be the cheapest way to fly to London, you do have to weigh the pros and cons of such savings.  In the end, we did make it safely to and from London, and thats what really counts.  Our adventure began, despite the small delay, and we all had a lot of fun.

Check back for more GHOSTour reports in the days to come.

Hour 1: Sam and Scott...still smiling.

Hour 2: Not much to do.  Charles tries to keep us from getting too crabby.

Hour 3: "Number One Sexiest Vampire" tells the story of how he won the title in Romania last year as the Indian woman behind him belches.  Loudly.  I guess she didn't care for his story.
