An early report from the Ecko block party. There is no such thing as bad publicity.
The mayor of NYC went on another silly rampage against something that would have almost gone unnoticed by most of the city and most of the world. Now the whole world knows and is showing up to see the event. Score one for Marc Ecko whose "non-corporate" artistic event certainly looks corporate to me. There are booths selling things and Ecko's name is everywhere. The mayor's actions brought out as many press and cameras as people, including one from Fox news. And if Fox shows up, it must be mainstream. "Celeb's" were out signing autographs and handing out free records. Sounds like a corporate promo!
Meanwhile, the grafitti artists are hard at work defacing the fake subway cars. So this is what the mayor was so worried about. Let's hope he didn't get his panties in too much of a knot over this. I am hoping to get the time to go back and see more of their work. Hopefully it will all go on display somewhere after the event.
