Spiegeltent

posted Wednesday, 20 September 2006

Last night I finally got to go to the Spiegeltent to see Absinthe.  I have been begging freinds to go, and finally found two who wanted to see the show.  Absinthe is hot, wet, strange and sexy.  It is a beautiful mix of song, dance, comedy, acrobatics, and freaks.  Mr. Rubberman alone is enough to make the ticket price worthwhile, and all the other acts are icing on the many layered cake.  Flaminco on roller skates, extinguishing a cigar on a tongue, trapeeze, a seductive songstress, and a wet man swinging around ther room fill the stage to create a relaxed and fun evening.  At the intermission the emcee mentioned that it was a good time to get a scotch, and somehow, that seemed like the right drink for this evening of european style burlesque.  The Spiegletent closes when the month ends, so get your tickets now!

Above is a picture of the front of the Spiegeltent with the line forming.  Get there early, as it started forming one hour before our show.  And you want to make sure you can get front row seats.  Nothing else will do.  When you are in the front row, you feel as if you are at a private performance.  The stage is so small, you think the performers may fall in your lap at any moment.  And if you are lucky, they do.

Here you can see my friends Joy Katz, the amazing poet, and Rob Handel, an outstanding playwright to be watched!  Joy had passed out when she learned how much money we had saved on the Absinthe tickets by using the right code!  You can get your tickets for $40 instead of $68 by using the code "save10"

In front of the tent is a beautiful beer garden with outstanding views of the city.  Be sure and bring your camera for pictures.  This is a great place to hang out before or after the show as they have both food and drink.

The Brooklyn Bridge was in rare form for the show, and we even decided to walk across it in search of a diner on the other side at 11pm.  This "nightcap" stroll closed the evening in a magical new York kind of way.

With outstanding views along the way, the Brooklyn Bridge is definitely worth your time to walk across it at night.  And after the Spiegeltent and a scotch, it really fills out the evening.

Of course on the other side of the bridge we found the Park Plaza Restaurant and Bakery still open at 11 pm.  We enjoyed some great diner style food and overstuffed ourselves for the journey home.
